October Special Event
On October 25, 2015, the Italian Club will bestow its annual Italian Heritage Award in post-humous honor of the 500 immigrants from Buscate who arrived in St. Louis between 1880-1920. We will also recognize their descendants who live in our community today as a result of their sacrifices. They came here seeking work and better lives for their families and future generations at a time when Italy had little to offer them. Most came here as a result of St. Louis' clay mines and robust brick making industry.
Italian Club president, Chris Stephens, received the San Maurino award on behalf of these immigrants from the mayoral administration of Buscate. This award will be bestowed in addition to the Italian Club award. The event will include a live videoconference with the Mayor and many citizens of Buscate. We hope to have as many descendants of the Buscatesi immigrants in attendance as possible!

Sunday, October 25th. 2:00 p.m. St. Ambrose Church Hall (below church). For more information, contact Chris Stephens at 314-308-0113.

For this special event, there will be proclamations given by the St. Louis Mayor's office, the St. Louis County Executive's office, and the Missouri legislature. The translation of the Buscate mayoral proclamation is as follows:

In memory of

their journey to far away lands; the difficulties they faced of language, social status and solitude; their courage in seeking a modicum of happiness and new possibilities that were here denied them; the never forgotten connection to their roots in Buscate.

The city administration of Buscate is pleased to confer this recognition

to all who emigrated mainly for reasons of Buscate’s lack of means at that time to offer opportunity or other assistance, not as compensation but as a profoundly heartfelt tribute to their lives, with gratitude.
